A Landmark Celebrating Rialto’s Heritage
Commissioned by NewMark Merrill Companies, the Rialto Village mural transforms a prominent gateway at one of the city’s busiest intersections into a vibrant celebration of Rialto’s history, identity, and future. Designed specifically for this highly visible retail destination, the artwork welcomes thousands of visitors each day while creating an immediate sense of place rooted in the local community.

The Story
Commissioned by NewMark Merrill Companies, this mural was designed to establish a memorable visual identity for Rialto Village while celebrating the city’s history, culture, and regional character. Located at one of Rialto’s busiest intersections, the artwork serves as a welcoming landmark experienced by thousands of residents and visitors each day.
The composition brings together many of Rialto’s most recognizable symbols—including Route 66, the historic railroad, the Rialto Metrolink Station, vintage citrus industry imagery, and the San Bernardino Mountains—into a contemporary mural that honors both the city’s heritage and its continued growth.
A defining feature of the design is the vibrant geometric color field that has become a recognizable Mass Murals signature. Beyond creating visual impact from a distance, the bold palette energizes the surrounding environment and transforms the building into an unmistakable destination within the shopping center.
Working within a compressed schedule and budget required thoughtful planning, efficient production, and experienced execution. The completed mural demonstrates how strategic design can create a lasting civic landmark while remaining responsive to practical project requirements.
Community Impact
Since its completion, the Rialto Village mural has become one of Rialto’s most recognizable public artworks. Residents regularly use the mural as a backdrop for portraits, family photographs, community events, custom vehicle photography, promotional videos, and social media content.
More importantly, the project provides a lasting visual tribute to the industries, landscapes, and people that helped shape Rialto’s identity.
